Summary:
It's "The Game of Global Domination". Play with up to five other computer/human players in the DOS version of the famous board game. The graphics are very nice. The map looks great and the little things like the cards are well designed. The game comes with three game files: one for CGA, EGA, and Tandy. EGA looks the best. I used CGA for the screenshots on the right because the EGA ones were too big for some reason (I use DOSBox for screens), but I used EGA for the main screenshot under the title. The two versions also have some other differences such as how the map is laid out.
The goal in Risk is to take over all of the other territories or to take over the headquarters of every other player. Risk starts with each player claiming lands with one man at a time until the whole map is filled. Once all spots are occupied, players can place any remaining men on territories that belong to them. Battles are decided with the use of dice. The more territories you possess, the more troops will be awarded to you at the start of each turn. There are bonuses for owning continents, and cards can be traded for more soldiers. The game will remind you when you have enough cards to trade.
One thing that I highly recommend doing before starting the game is to set it to "Fast Game". This can be done by clicking on options, the far right menu at the top. This will make all the computer aspects go by fast, so you don't have to wait for the computer players to decide each move.
Controls:
The mouse is the only thing you really need aside from some typing. Holding the right mouse button is used for scrolling in the CGA version.
