Summary:
This game was an early sign of what Electronic Arts would become: a dominant force in sports gaming. Kings of the Beach is a beach volleyball game with five different game modes. The first three are for practice. They are BUMP, SET, and SPIKE, and are found at the top of the screen. The next game mode is MATCH, and is found in the bottom left corner. Here you play a single match up to 15. The last mode is TOURNAMENT, and is in the bottom right corner. To see this menu screen look at the top screenshot on the right.
You and your partner are called Sinjin Smith and Randy Stoklos. You can choose which one you control in REGISTRATION, found in the middle of the menu screen. Here you can also select the difficulty, set the sound, and enter a password. After completing several levels in the tournament, you will get a password so you can start at that level later. This is useful because the opponents get quite hard and it is nice to be able to rematch them without having to defeat all of the lower levels again.
Controls:
The cursor keys move you player around the court. Aside from that, there are three main buttons you will need in your game play. ' is used to bump, ; is volley, and L is spike. These buttons may have different functions on defense. For example, L is block. Esc will quit the match/practice session and take you back to the menu screen. Lastly, P will pause the game. Press any of the game keys to unpause.
